Community Health Fairs and event participation – Staff from the Health Education department regularly participate in health fairs and events in schools, churches, neighborhood associations and community groups. Participation may include health screenings, health promotion booths, demonstration, literature and other promotional materials or referrals to additional services.
Health Education staff are active m embers of over 30 local and national community organizations or associations. Our staff are also members of several school wellness councils.
Our experienced health educators are frequently asked to make public presentations on health education and disease prevention issues throughout the County.
Throughout the year, we organize several health promotion events in recognition of national or state health observances as well as providing monthly promotional materials to the Saint Louis County Health Centers.
The Health Education department routinely organizes and conducts a community-wide health assessment that provides information about the health needs and issues of County residents. This information is housed on the Assessment and Data section of the website.
Child Care Health Consultation Programs – Education and consultation for educators in child care settings that promotes safe and healthy environments for children.
County School Nurse Liaison – Support for county school nurses in dealing with student health issues.
Emergency Preparedness for Seniors Program – Education program to help seniors prepare for an emergency or natural disaster.
HealthChat – Education program.
Healthy Living Poster Contest – The purpose of the annual contest is to encourage students to spread messages to their peers that promote a healthy lifesyle.
Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (HDSP) – Education and emergency steps to take, especially to prevent a second heart attack or stroke.
Project Power – Diabetes education and prevention program designed for African American faith-based communities developed by the American Diabetes Association.
Redbird Rookies – Seasonal fitness program for county youth in partnership with the Saint Louis Cardinals.
The Teenage Health Consultants Program (TAHC) – Peer education program in which trained high school students promote healthy decision-making with their peers.
Workplace Smoking Cessation Program – Smoking cessation classes in the workplace and for new Americans.
Campus Health Newsletter – Quarterly newsletter for college-age students distributed to community colleges throughout the County.
