Monthly Vacation Accrual
State of Missouri - Employment Facts
Vacation accrual is based on years of service.
- 10 hours each month for 10 years
- 12 hours each month for years 10 through 14
- 14 hours each month from year 15 and over
Monthly Sick Leave Accrual
10 hours each month.
Sick leave can be used to care for immediate family members.
At retirement, unused sick leave can be credited toward service time.
(Every 21 days for a month of service).

Health Care Benefits
Retirement: State employees hired for the first time on or after January 1, 2011 will participate in the MSEP 2011 Retirement Plan. Members of this plan are required to contribute 4% of their pay to the retirement system and are fully vested after completing ten years of service. For additional information visit the Mo. Life Insurance: Full time employees are provided a basic coverage (paid by the State - for one times their annual salary) life insurance policy. Employees have the option to pay for additional life insurance; up to six times greater than their annual salary (up to a maximum coverage of $800,000). The rate for the additional life insurance is determined by amount of coverage and age of employee. Optional dependent coverage is also available through payroll deduction.
Long-term Disability: This benefit begins after 90 days of disability. The benefit is 60% of monthly compensation less Social Security, Workers Compensation, etc.
Medical Plans: Employees choose from multiple options. Cost is dependent on the plan selected. For additional information visit the Missouri Consolidated Health Care Plan web page.
Dental and Vision Plans: These plans are available to an employee and their dependents through payroll deduction.
State employees hired for the first time on or after July 1, 2012 will have 1% of their salary automatically deducted and deposited into an account in their name with the Missouri Deferred Compensation Plan. New employees will have the option to change or cancel this benefit. For additional information visit the

Missouri Credit Union
Employees and their immediate family members may join with a minimum deposit of $50 plus a $1 membership fee. Savings plans and loans are available through payroll deduction.

Participating employees purchase some benefits with pre-tax dollars (e.g. state sponsored health, dental and vision insurance; medical benefits, parking reimbursement and dependent care assistance).
Parking in a St. Louis County parking lot (the downtown Clayton area) is available for $10 a month. Parking fees are paid quarterly.

Working Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (one hour lunch period)
- Direct Deposit: Payroll direct deposit is mandatory.
Probationary Period: New employees are on probation for 6 months. Upon successful completion of the probationary period, an employee may be eligible for a one-step pay increase (approximately 2%).
Criminal History Check: Prior to date of employment, the employee must pass a criminal history check verifying no criminal convictions other than minor traffic violations.
