CMPA Receives CALEA Re-accreditation
The St. Louis County and Municipal Police Academy has been re-accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc (CALEA) effective December 6, 2011. The CMPA remains the only police academy in the state of Missouri to have achieved this distinction.
The Academy first achieved accreditation in 2008 after an exhaustive process to assure that it met all of the 158 professional standards established by the Commission. Since that time, the Academy has had to carefully document that it continues to meet these standards in all of its operations. The standards fall into nine areas reflecting the best professional requirements and practices for a public safety training academy.
The St. Louis County and Municipal Police Academy joins its parent department, St. Louis County Police, and the St. Louis County Bureau of Communications in being accredited under CALEA standards. This resulted in the St. Louis County Police Department being awarded Tri-Arc status, one of only five departments in the world so honored.
