Captain's Message

photo of Captain SackThe St. Louis County Police Department is committed to providing high quality police services to the citizens of West County, including the municipalities of Clarkson Valley, Twin Oaks, Valley Park and Winchester.  We are dedicated to serving our residents and want to ensure that our neighborhoods, schools and businesses are crime free.

Without the partnership of our citizens, our mission would be difficult to achieve. We rely on our citizens to become involved in our community. We appreciate the participation of our citizens in our programs, such as the Citizen Police Academy, the Neighborhood Watch Program and the annual National Night Out event.

Some recent areas of concern are focused on crime reduction and traffic complaints. Thefts from unlocked motor vehicles continue to occur and we have also had some larcenies in which windows on vehicles were shattered in order to gain entry. To prevent these thefts, we recommend nothing of value be in plain view while a vehicle is unattended. We ask our citizens to immediately report any suspicious behavior, such as persons loitering in a parking lot or individuals walking in neighborhoods late at night.

To address traffic concerns, officers have been conducting speed enforcement on many of our roadways in order to reduce accidents and achieve compliance with the posted speed limit. We currently have over 20 roadways that are designated as special traffic enforcement sites. We hope our efforts will result in safer roads and a reduction in accidents.

West County Precinct Goals

  • Provide the public with reasonable and efficient access to public services.
  • Be responsive to calls and identified needs for police services within the precinct 24 hours a day.
  • Allocate personnel to obtain maximum utilization of its human resources to meet identified needs.
  • Provide staff services for the traditional line functions of the police.
  • Maintain a proactive approach toward crime and disorder.
  • Identify criminal activity and act to resolve it.
  • Maintain activities to facilitate the orderly flow of people and vehicles within the community.
  • Maintain positive interaction with the public and a high degree of visibility within the community.

Volunteer Opportunities

Here is a list of current opportunities for citizen volunteers to get involved in precinct service events:

The West County Precinct Explorer Program

This is a great opportunity for young adults to serve their community and  "explore" a career in law  enforcement. The program builds leadership, character, confidence and discipline. Canidates must be between the ages of 14 and 21 to apply. For any questions, please contact Officer Dusty Poncin at 615-0700.

Citizen Police Academy
Gives citizens the oppurtunity to gain training and knowledge of law enforcement techniques and strategies. Citizens attend weekly classes taught by Officers and Department Personnel as well as getting an exclusive inside peek to various inter-department functions. Citizens graduate at the conclusion of each session and receive a certificate from the Department. For more information and to enroll in the next session, please contact Officer Vince Bazzoni at 615-0700.
For more information about the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association please go to:

Report Crime ... Make the Call

If you see a crime in progress or another emergency situation that requires an immediate police response, call 911. Provide the call-taker with a good description of the incident, the offender, and the exact location.

For non-emergencies, however, do not call 911. Non-emergency calls to 911 can slow the response time to true emergencies. The number to call for non-emergencies is (314) 889-2341.
