Administrator
One who is appointed, by the Probate Court, as a guardian, conservator or personal representative (also called a fiduciary).

Conservator
One who is appointed by the Probate Court to take charge of assets of another living person and to conserve (preserve) those assets. The Probate Court must first have a hearing and make a finding that the person for whom a conservator is sought is "disabled". The definition of "disabled" is found in the Missouri Statues under the Probate Code.

Estate
The financial assets of a person, alive or deceased, which are in the charge of an administrator.

Guardian
One who is appointed by the Probate Court to take charge of another living person and make medical, placement and other personal decisions for that person. The Probate Court must first have a hearing and make a finding that the person for whom a conservator is sought is "incapacitated". The definition of "incapacitated" is found in the Missouri statutes under the Probate Code.

Heir
A person who by law (as listed in the Missouri statutes) is entitled to inherit from another when there is no Last Will and Testament.

Legatee
A person who by a Last Will and Testament is entitled to inherit from another.

Personal Representative
One who is appointed by the Probate Court to administer the assets of a deceased person.

Protectee
A person for whom a conservator is appointed.

Public Adminstrator
A public official who performs the job of a guardian, conservator or personal representative when there is no one else who can be found or is capable of performing the job.

Ward
A person for whom a guardian is appointed.
