St. Louis County acquired the fifteen-acre park in 2014 from Ronald W. Schaefer, whose family had used the property for their business since the 1960s. Schaefer-Meyer Grading Division, Inc. had played an essential role in the construction of many residential subdivisions in the north part of the county. The office building and machinery shed were both built in 1968, according to county records.

The park was acquired using an unappropriated fund balance that came available with the passage of Prop P in 2013. It is situated within the proposed Cold Water Creek Greenway.
