How to Participate in County Council Meetings during the COVID-19/Coronavirus State of Emergency

Slowing the spread of COVID-19 is important, but your voice still matters. During the State of Emergency, The County Council will be taking electronic comments from the public in lieu of in-person remarks during their weekly meetings. Here’s how you can participate in Saint Louis County Council’s Public Forum:

  • Send your public comment and any relevant attachments to [email protected]
  • Your correspondence will only be recorded in and read during the Public Forum order of business for a regular weekly Council Meeting if it is sent to this inbox on the Tuesday in which the meeting is being held, at least an hour before the meeting is set to start. If messages are received outside of that window, you will receive an automatic reply indicating that you will need to resend your message at the appropriate time in order for it to be recorded.
  • Your emailed comment must be 400 words or less. This is roughly the equivalent of 3 minutes of verbal communication—the same allotment allowed during public forum at in-person meetings of the Saint Louis County Council. If the correspondence is greater than 400 words, the County Clerk will only read and record the first 400 words of the Correspondence.
  • The Saint Louis County Council Administrative Director or a designee will read your comment out loud during the corresponding weekly Council meeting during the “Public Forum” section of the agenda.
  • Your comment will be transcribed in the Journal of the Council meeting under the Public Forum order of business. A hard copy of your original correspondence and all public comments will also be retained in the official record.
  • Please note, when submitting your comments, a name must be provided. If you would like, you may include your address or municipality, but this is not required. However, if a name is not provided, the provided comment will not be read.

If you have any questions about this process, please contact Diann Valenti, Acting Administrative Director, at [email protected].
