1965 Voting Rights Act
§2 of the 1965 Voting Rights Act requires the creation of compact legislative districts where a minority group constitutes a numerical majority of the voting-age population in order to prevent dilution of the minority group’s votes. Reauthorized in 2006 the Voting Rights Act and its implementation is monitored by the US Department of Justice.
