The Honorable James R. Hartenbach

Judge Hartenbach was appointed circuit judge on December 21, 1983.

Judge Hartenbach received both his Bachelor of Science degree and his Juris Doctorate degree from St. Louis University.

Judge Hartenbach served with the U.S. Army, 199th Light Infantry Brigade from 1967 through 1968 in Vietnam. He served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in St. Louis County and was first assistant prosecuting attorney for Franklin and St. Louis counties. He maintained a private law practice until his appointment to the bench.

Judge Hartenbach serves on numerous state and local judicial related committees.

Judge Hartenbach and his wife reside in St. Louis County. They have three children.
