Judge McShane was appointed circuit judge on October 17, 1994.

Judge McShane completed her undergraduate studies at St. Louis University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree. She received her Juris Doctorate degree from South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas.

Judge McShane was an assistant prosecuting attorney in the St. Louis County Prosecutor's Office from 1984 until 1994, when she was appointed to the bench.

Judge McShane is a member of the St. Louis County Bar Association and the Women Lawyers Association. She serves on the board of several organizations.

Judge McShane resides in St. Louis County.
