Biography

Michael O'Mara is a native of St. Louis and the Florissant area. Elected to the St. Louis County Council in 2000, he is the 4th District Representative. As Councilman, his goal is to represent the people of North County by voicing their concerns, maintaining the quality of life and housing standards, and encouraging attractive, well planned development. He wants the 4th District to continue to be a place that people are proud to call home and to raise a family in. He has strong interests in education issues, senior citizen concerns and the maintenance of a strong employment base.

Michael O'Mara lives in unincorporated North County with his wife Carol and his son James and daughter Maddie. James attends the UMKC/Kansas State Architecture program and Maddie attends Incarnate Word High School. He is a member of St. Norbert's Parish and enjoys coaching soccer, playing golf and being outdoors.

Mr. O'Mara is currently Assistant Business Manager for the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 562. From 1984 through 1992 he was a Journeyman Pipefitter in Local 562. Before that he played professional Soccer for the Kansas City Comets (1981-1982) and St. Louis Steamers(1983-1984) and coached for the Busch Gardens Soccer Club(1983) and Florissant Valley Community College(1982-1984). In 1984 he played in the Major Indoor Soccer League championship Series finals with the St. Louis Steamers.

Mr. O'Mara serves on the Board of Directors of the St. Patrick's Center and previously served on the Missouri Training and Employment Council and was previously appointed to the Missouri State Council on Vocational Education by Governer Mel Carnahan. He received a BA in Communication - St. Louis University in 1983. He also attended Florissant Valley Community College, receiving the Award of Excellence as the Outstanding Student in 1979-80 and was a 1979 All-American in Varsity Soccer. He is a graduate of McCluer North High School.
