About Us
Letter from the County Executive
Letter of Introduction from Workforce Investment Board Chairman
Overview
The Missouri Career Center - Saint Louis County has continuously evolved to meet
the increasing demands of the job seeker and the business community. In 1987 the
United States Department of Labor established Private Industry Councils to increase
private sector involvement in the federal job training programs under the Job Training
Partnership Act (JTPA). In 1998, the entire workforce development system was reformed
under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). In the process, the Private Industry Councils
were authorized to provide oversight of local workforce services. With the
implementation of the WIA, the "One Stop" concept was created to offer both individuals
and businesses a continuum of services (i.e. job training, job development, resource
services, job skills development and job recruitment) at a single point of contact.
Today, the Workforce Investment Board (WIB) - Saint Louis County provides direction on
local workforce issues by identifying needs and developing strategies for administering
the Title One Program of the Workforce Investment Act and the Temporary Assistance to
Needy Families/Career Assistance Program (TANF/CAP). The WIB contracts with the following
partner agencies to provide a wide range of direct services to our clients:
- Better Family Life, Inc.
- International Institute of St. Louis
- MERS/Goodwill
- St. Louis Community College
- Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis.
Through these partnerships the Missouri Career Center - Saint Louis
County continues to serve an increasing number of clients.
True to our tradition of evolving to meet the increasing demands of the community we
as, the Missouri Career Center - Saint Louis County continues to redefine our role in the
changing, global economy.
