The project inspection area of the Construction Division consists of three Sections each headed by an Engineering supervisor. These are designated North, Central and South Project Inspection Sections. The lines of demarcation for each section are not strictly geographical but are groupings of assigned projects under each specific supervisor.

Each Project Inspection Section is responsible for the inspection, administration and supervision of work performed by contractors under road improvement contracts let by the Department of Highways and Traffic. These contracts are for Preservation projects and Roadway Improvement projects. Preservation projects include contracts such as crack sealing, concrete replacement, mill and overlay preparation, sidewalk replacement and construction, micro surfacing, asphalt overlay and infrastructure improvements. Roadway Improvement projects include contracts for bridge upgrade or replacement, major intersection improvements and significant construction involving upgrading of the capacity of existing roadways or construction of new roadways.

The inspection of work by contractors for all private developers involving new subdivision roadway construction and commercial developments requiring major roadway improvements is performed by the Subdivision Inspection area under the Central Project Inspection Section.

The inspection of the installation of all traffic signal equipment including accessories installed as part of Roadway Improvement Contracts, under separate Traffic Signal Contracts and by contractors for private developments is performed by the Traffic Inspection area under the South Project Inspection Section. The administration and inspection of the annual maintenance contract for striping intersections is also done in this area.

The Departmental contract for tree replacement orders as part of the maintenance tree removal program and tree planting associated with newly completed construction contract projects is administered by the South Project Inspection Section.
