Jefferson Barracks Park was an Army Post from 1826-1946. It replaced Fort Belle Fontaine as the major military installation west of the Mississippi during the time when the frontier was being settled. Famous soldiers who trained here were Ulysses S. Grant, William T. Sherman, Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, Zachary Taylor, and Dwight D. Eisenhower. |
