| RANGERS What Do We Do?
For over 50 years the St. Louis County Park Rangers have provided public safety for visitors to
the parks in our system. The basic duties of a Ranger revolve around the three main goals of our
division: Public Relations, Programming, and Protection.
Public Relations: Rangers assist, guide and direct visitors in the parks. They are available to
answer questions about programs and facilities, provide assistance to stranded motorists, search
for lost persons, provide first aid for injuries, provide crowd and traffic control at special events
and other services as required.
Programming: Rangers provide a wide variety of interpretive and outdoor skills programs to
enhance enjoyment of the parks and the metropolitan area. Nature walks, firearms/fishing
programs, motorcycle safety, living history, bike rodeos, community nights and other programs are available on an
ongoing basis.
Protection: Rangers are authorized to enforce State Laws, County Ordinances and Park rules.
They patrol on foot, bicycle, horse, boat, atv’s and vehicle. Minor violations are often handled by a
verbal or written warning, however stronger enforcement actions are sometimes needed.
Rangers can issue citations or summons for violations and are trained in arrest techniques, firearms, search
and seizure and defensive tactics.
If you would like to learn more about the job opportunities, minimum requirements, salaries and
