Summer Job Opportunities 2008

Information is available regarding St. Louis County's general summer job opportunities and Parks & Recreation summer job opportunities. The information is based on positions which were most frequently available during the summer of 2007. Although we expect our 2008 needs to be similar, some of the departments may have jobs which are not shown on the list. Departments normally begin making their selections in April so applicants are encouraged to apply by April 1, 2008.

In accordance with the Civil Service Commission Policy, summer employees must be at least 16 years of age on or before their first day of work for most positions. According to the Fair Labor Standards Act for hazardous occupations, employees must be at least 18 years of age on or before their first day of work. Hazardous occupations are those which involve driving or working on a public road. This requirement pertains to most summer workers in the following departments: Highways and Traffic, Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Spirit of St. Louis Airport, and Health. Applicants for positions which may involve driving must possess their own transportation, a valid driver's license and insurance coverage acceptable to the Appointing Authority.

If you are interested in applying for any of the positions listed, please print a Summer Application and complete it. (Adobe Acrobat Reader is required. You may download a free reader below.) Mail the completed application to the appropriate department listed for each job. Please send a separate application to each department for which you would like to work, and list all jobs you wish to apply for in that department on the application.

If you have specific questions, you may email the department.

It is very important that the Summer Application contains all pertinent information, and is signed and dated. If you are selected for employment you must be able to furnish documents on your first day of employment that indicate you are legally authorized to work in the United States according to the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

Thank you for your interest in summer employment with St. Louis County.
