| St. Louis County government, 59 municipal police departments,
23 fire protection districts and 20 municipal fire departments
provide protective services in St. Louis County. St. Louis County
government also provides a broad array of public health services and
has 12 private hospitals within its borders. The St. Louis County Circuit
Court and Department of Justice Services provide civil, criminal and family
court services and jail and multiple alternative community service programs.
The St. Louis County Library District serves much of the County, while 9
cities maintain municipal libraries.
