Mapping Services

Historic Aerial Photography

The St. Louis County Planning Department is making available a service in which we will provide by graphic file or print maps depicting historical aerial photography for user-selected parcels for St. Louis County. The aerial photography is available for the years 1937, 1955, 1970, 1981, 2002 and 2004.

Digital aerial photography dated 2002 and 2004 is provided in conjunction with the U.S. Geological Survey. Original photography was captured at 1-foot pixel resolution. Photography is 3-band color imagery that has been ortho-rectified and ground-truthed.

Digital aerial photography dated prior to 2000 were created by scanning photographs and copies of photographs. Images were georeferenced to current street centerline data by the St. Louis County Department of Planning. Scale and resolution of original photography are unknown. Due to the condition and scale of scanned media, image quality and horizontal positional accuracy will vary.

The 2002 and 2004 photography is in color, and the other years are in black and white. Graphic files are in the Windows bitmap (.bmp) format, and may be emailed to the requestor. The cost of this service is $5.00 for the first parcel requested, and $2.00 for additional parcels. We need to have a current parcel ID or street address to produce the maps. If we cannot verify the parcel ID or street address, we cannot produce the map. The maps are letter size, and follow a standard format in which current parcels and streets overlay the historic photography. See examples below in bmp or pdf format (we provide bmp format only)
