Since April 1997, the Department of Planning has included the position of Transportation and Redevelopment Policy Administrator. This position was created to enhance the department's ability to participate in planning for bus, light rail, highway and redevelopment projects via interagency coordination.
The Transportation and Redevelopment Policy Administrator works with the Bi-State Development Agency, East-West Gateway Coordinating Council and Missouri Department of Transportation on regional transportation planning efforts. Examples include the expansion of the MetroLink light rail system (Bi-State), major transportation investment analysis corridor studies (East-West Gateway), and interstate highway improvement projects (MODOT). In addition to transportation, the administrator also works with municipalities on tax increment finance (TIF) projects. Participation on municipal TIF commissions is coordinated through the Transportation and Redevelopment Policy Administrator, who is also a member of multiple TIF commissions. Other duties include serving as liaison with the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District and acting as the Employee Transportation Coordinator for County workers. Employee Transportation Coordinator duties include distributing transit newsletters and information plus holding special events such as Rideshare Week and A Taste of Transit which are designed to encourage the use of public transportation. The Transportation and Redevelopment Policy Administrator also reports directly to the St. Louis County Executive on matters concerning bus, light rail, highways and redevelopment projects. |
