Commendations and Complaints
How can I commend or complain about the actions of a County Police Department employee?
Citizen communications regarding the performance of our personnel are always welcomed by the St. Louis County Police Department. We are always pleased when we are told that a Department employee's performance was outstanding and we need to know when an employee didn't meet your expectations.
How to Commend an Officer’s Actions
There are several ways in which you can make the Department aware when an employee has done particularly well in performing his or her job. You can:
mail a brief letter to:
Colonel Tim Fitch, Chief of Police
St. Louis County Police Department
7900 Forsyth
Clayton, MO 63105.
Please describe the incident and the actions you think were exceptional. If you don't know the officer's name, please include information such as the type of incident, date, time, and location.
e-mail the compliment to Chief Fitch through this link.
make a verbal commendation by calling the Bureau of Professional Responsibility at (314) 615-5340.
fill out an Online Citizen's Comment Form which will go directly to the Bureau of Professional Responsibility.
The Chief will notify our employees of all messages received commending their actions and, where appropriate, may award additional recognition for the employee's actions.
How to Make a Complaint
If you wish to make a complaint regarding a Department employee, you may also do so in a number of ways. You may:
call the Bureau of Professional Responsibility, which investigates all complaints, at (314) 615-5340.
download a Citizen Complaint Statement Form, print it, fill it out, and mail or deliver it to the Bureau of Professional Responsibility at the address on the form.
(The form is in Adobe Acrobat format. You will need the Acrobat Reader.)
fill out an Online Citizen's Comment Form which will go directly to the Bureau of Professional Responsibility.
All complaints will be thoroughly investigated and, where appropriate, corrective and/or disciplinary action will be taken to make sure that the incident isn't repeated.
