Volunteers use their own cars for rides that are scheduled at least five (5) days in advance and are free of charge for the senior. The program offers volunteers flexibility for designating preferred days and hours, as well as geographic areas to which they will drive. Orientation and mileage reimbursement, plus other educational and social activities also are available.

In the 2013-14 winter season, Highways and Traffic spread 41,000 tons of salt on its 3,100 lane miles of pavement. In 2012-13, road personnel dispensed just 14,435 tons of the granular chemical.
