If you are one of over 18,000 ex-offenders released from the Missouri Department of Corrections annually, it is important that you are prepared to re-enter the workforce. The Missouri Job Centers - Saint Louis County have trained workforce development professionals ready to assist you with your job search. We can assess your current skills, assist you with preparing a resume, and invite you to career fairs. Registration on Jobs.Mo.Gov, Missouri's premiere Internet-based job search engine, is required.
IN SCHOOL YOUTH PROGRAM
The Workforce Innovation Opportunities Act (WIOA) In School Youth Program is a year-round program that helps to improve educational achievement for all youth participants and prepare them for success in employment.
The program provides linkages between academic and occupation learning, connection to the job market and employers. The WIOA program helps youth to understand the connection between Education and Careers.
Youth are enrolled at age 14 (freshman year). Youth must be enrolled in one of the partnering school districts: Ferguson Florissant, Hazelwood, Jennings, Kirkwood, Normandy, Ritenour, Riverview Gardens and University City.
Must meet income eligibility. AND
Must meet one or more program barriers:
• Deficient in basic literacy skills
• Homeless, runaway or foster child
• Pregnant or parenting
• Requires additional assistance to complete an educational program or to secure and hold employment
OUT OF SCHOOL OLDER YOUTH PROGRAM
The Workforce Innovation Opportunities Act (WIOA) Older Youth Program delivers a comprehensive array of youth services that focus on assisting low-income youth with one or more barriers to employment. The youth have the option to prepare for post-secondary education, attain educational and/or skill training credentials and secure employment with career/promotional opportunities.
In addition the program offer:
• Tutoring
• Alternative secondary school options
• Summer employment opportunities
• Paid and unpaid work experiences
• Occupation skill training
• Leadership development
• Supportive services
• Mentoring
• Follow up services
• Comprehensive guidance/counseling
Youth ages 16 through 24 who are low income and have one or more of the following barriers:
• Deficient in basic literacy skills
• Homeless, runaway or foster child
• School dropout
• Offender
• Pregnant or parenting
• Requires additional assistance to complete an educational program or to secure and hold employment (including youth with a disability)
