  Department History and Overview
The history of the St. Louis County Police Department goes back to 1955, when the department was formed to serve the growing needs of the citizens of the County. Now with an authorized strength of over 835 commissioned officers as well as over 250 civilian members, the department is divided into four divisions, each with a special role to play in our daily mission: To Serve and Protect the citizens and visitors of St. Louis County.
  CALEA Re-Accreditation
St. Louis County Police Department first obtained CALEA accreditation in 1998. Now it is only one of a handful of departments in the United States to have all three accreditations available, for the department, for the St. Louis County and Municipal Police Academy, and for the St. Louis County Bureau of Communications. This page explains the process and the value of this accreditation to the Department and the community.

  Those Never Forgotten
Since its formation, St. Louis County Police Department has lost nine of its finest in the line of duty. Here is our memorial to these brave and dedicated officers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the citizens and communities they served.
  Awards - Officer and Citizen
When police officers or citizens distinguish themselves by performing some notable act of bravery or service in furtherance of law enforcement and community betterment, it is incumbent upon the Department to recognize that in some formal way. This is done with the awards and medals described on these pages.
