A unique feature of the Charter Amendment establishing the St. Louis County Police Department in 1955 was a provision enabling the Chief of Police to enter into municipal contracts upon approval of the County. This special feature existed in only one other county department in the United States and was immediately utilized by the St. Louis County Police Department.
Today, the St. Louis County Police have joined together with neighboring cities, towns, villages, schools and other agencies to provide special services tailored to the citizens of the contracting entity. These unique services reflect not only the commitment of our Department, but those of area municipal police departments and local elected officials who have chosen the St. Louis County Police Department.
