For Immediate Release

The St. Louis County Police Department will have a “Media Day” on Friday, December 14 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the St. Louis County Police hangar located at Spirit of St. Louis Airport (18200 Edison Avenue in Chesterfield, MO.). The event allows the display of several new pieces of equipment totaling just over $3 million that enables the department to serve the citizens of St. Louis County and the region more effectively during major criminal incidents, disasters and potential acts of terrorism. This event is not open to the public due to airport security reasons, but offers media photo opportunities and information/interviews.

MD500E Model Jet Turbine Helicopter with AERO Computers and Nightsun Spotlights. The helicopter was purchased through Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Port Security Grant Program (PSGP) funding approved through the St. Louis Area Maritime Security Committee (AMSC) and the U.S. Coast Guard, Sector Upper Mississippi River. The computers and spotlight were funded by the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI). The new equipment enhances the Metro Air Support Unit’s ability to perform search and rescue missions, increase patrols of the region's critical infrastructure and provide support to first responders. The Metro Air Support Unit is a consolidated flight merging Departmental operations of St. Louis County, St. Louis City, and St. Charles County (Sheriff’s Dept).

LENCO Bear-Cat Armored Vehicle - funded through UASI. This vehicle is unique in that it is the only armored vehicle equipped with an elevated platform that can place officers onto the second story of a structure or the outer door of an airliner from a protected platform. This vehicle also contains Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) detection sensors equipped within.

Tactical Support Vehicle - funded through UASI, accompanies the Tactical Operations Unit to all tactical situations. This vehicle not only holds all tactical equipment, but has a host computer and communication equipment to allow it to act as a command post. It also allows the tactical officers to work off-site for an extended period without relief.
