The Land Planning Section, a division of the Department of Planning, enforces the County's Zoning Ordinance by processing and analyzing petitions for changes in zoning, special procedures, and variances to the zoning regulations. The Land Planning Section also researches and proposes ordinance amendments to ensure that the Zoning Ordinance is effective in regulating land use. Additionally, the Section conducts and coordinates plan reviews of commercial, industrial, and residential development in unincorporated St. Louis County by the St. Louis County Planning Commission.
