Ernie Trakas is an attorney who has practiced law for almost four decades. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Ernie moved to St. Louis in 1983. He met his wife Lori in 1996 and they were married in 2000.
Ernie began his legal career working for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce as counsel for the Subcommittee on Transportation and Commerce. For the last twenty years Ernie has concentrated his practice in the areas of civil rights, including the Titles IV, V, VI, VII and IX of the Civil Rights Act, Title 42 U.S.C. § 1983, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the Missouri Human Rights Act (MHRA. Ernie has litigated race, gender, and disability based employment and education cases in the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri, and Washington D.C.. He has also argued appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth and District of Columbia Circuits. Ernie’s clients include Missouri public school districts, colleges and universities. Ernie also represents private entities in labor and employment matters.
Councilman Trakas was elected to a four-year term on the Council on November 8, 2016 and was sworn in to office on January 1, 2017.
