Jamestown Mall Public Open House Presentation
Jamestown Mall served North St. Louis County residents for 41 years until it was shuttered in July 2014. Once a bustling 1.2 million-square-foot shopping center with four anchor tenants, the mall declined due to shoppers’ changing buying habits, the recession, and the rise of new area shopping plazas closer to interstate highways. Today the abandoned mall site is unsightly and unsafe. Click here to view recent pictures taken inside the closed mall.
To ensure that new uses for the mall area are identified, St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger took the step 18 months ago of collaborating with the St. Louis County Port Authority to purchase the mall properties. However, the mall area cannot have a new life until the Port Authority acquires all of the properties.
In an effort to keep the project moving, St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger sent a letter on February 9, 2017 to the St. Louis County Port Authority, which owns a significant portion of the Jamestown mall site, to use its statutory power of eminent domain to acquire the remaining parcels if necessary, and then seek bids for clearing the site. The letter also emphasized the importance of inviting minority contractors to respond to any requests for proposals.
We want you to be informed and involved in the effort to find new uses for the Jamestown Mall property. On this page you will find the dates, times and locations of upcoming public meetings.
